(no subject)

Somewhere in the back of her mind, even Kanaya was shocked with what had just transpired. This body was still new to her, and in large part she was acting on instinct. The moment she had seen Eridan she had gone completely berserk with bloodlust. She certainly hadn't meant to harm Gamzee the way she did, and while she did take a small degree of satisfaction in punching Vriska, that hadn't been intended either. It had all occurred because of her desire, her need to rip Eridan apart.

She looked down at the bloody remains of said troll with no hint of remorse, her chest heaving and body pumped with adrenaline. There was something so viscerally satisfying in this. All those sweeps of being the patient one, being the calm one, being the docile one. It seemed in the end, she was still just as much a troll as anyone else and Eridan had finally been the one to unearth this part of her.

He was the troll who had not only killed her, but Feferi and all the hopes they had of ensuring the safety of their species. Disgust poured throughout her and she spit out the bit of his blood she had applied on her lips. No, she didn't want anything to do even with his rich blood.

She gave herself a few more moments to gather herself, when she suddenly remembered something. She turned her head slightly to look at where Vriska was, on the ground.

That was right.

She had an audience.

Application for Marina Asylum

Other Criminals Played: N/A

Character
Character Name: Kanaya Maryam
Fandom: Homestuck
Timeline: Just as she is about to take the Martiorb into the core.
Crimes: Assault, desecration, genocide by negligence, manufacturing weapons, murder, ball-crushing,

Personality: To describe Kanaya, it is perhaps important to see where she is coming from. Trolls in general are a violent and militant race. They consider hate a healthy and necessary part of life and are always ready to kill of any troll who shows any signs of weakness.

Kanaya is rare in that not only she is not particularly violent, but she is also usually very calm and in control of her emotions. This alone is a rather impressive feat given the company she usually keeps, but made even more so when you realizing that her society in one that actively fosters hatred and anger. To go against this shows the sincerity of her benevolent nature, and her courage in going against the norm in a world where such actions can have you killed with no hesitation.

She is a very motherly figure, in part due to her lusus who is a virgin mother grub. Amongst her friends she is the one many go to for advice. She is once referred to by Eridan as "wwhatEVVER you are so the vvillage twwo wwheel devvice wwhen it comes to auspisticing" which pretty much translates into the person who always mediates between fighters and keeps the cool head. Karkat refers to her as one of the sanest of the trolls, so all in all Kanaya can be described as a calm, collected, and reasonable individual. She meddles and fusses over just about everyone, even those she does not know very well, and tries to always have the best intentions in mind. She enjoys many things that are considered pointless and unproductive by most trolls, such as designing and sewing clothing, gardening, decorating, and taking walks in the sunlight. She is very feminine and a 'sophisticate' if you will.

Like all sentient creatures, Kanaya does have her faults, and that is that she is attracted to power. That is, she is attracted to powerful women regardless of how dangerous they may be. This is shown through her crush on Vriska, a troll who has killed hundreds, some who were even friends, and her infatuation with Rose. The fact that it is hard for her to say no to someone is made worse when she associates with people like these, since it takes a lot for her to finally put her foot done when when they step out of line, hurt her, or otherwise make her uncomfortable. In this way she can be quite the pushover, and it is only as her wits end that she finally begins to push back. When you does push back, oh boy. You better watch out. You know what they say about the quiet ones and Kanaya has a chainsaw she isn't afraid to use. As mature as she is, she too can fall into bouts of childishness as seen from the cold shoulder and flippant way she begins to act towards Vriska after she sees her kissing Tavros. It's obvious that Vriska does not know that Kanaya saw that, and it seems that Kanaya is not willing to explain the change in her demeanor for that would mean having to confess that she has feelings for her.

While on the subject of her crushes and infatuations, Kanaya can be quite the romantic at heart, even if she does well to hide it in most cases. She is quite a fan of tales of love of the rainbow-drinkers of Alternia (aka Troll-Twilight. Yes, Troll-Twilight) and seems to become attracted to people quite easily. Thus far she has only shown attraction to girls, though as a general trolls do not take gender into account in their romantic pursuits.

Unfortunately, while a romantic, she can be rather shy about her feelings. In all her time with Vriska she never once confessed or hinted that her feelings extended to that of just friends, and she even denied her feelings for her when Eridan brought them up. This might play into the whole theme of virginity that Kanaya represents (her ancestral is that of the zodiac Virgo), her guardian was a virgin mother grub, and her modus is chastity. Kanaya is rather prudish in such matters and while she is always willing to listen to the romantic pursuits of her fellows, the only person she is really comfortable talking to about her own is Karkat.

It's rather ironic then, that out of all the trolls she was the one entrusted with the propagation of the species. In turn for taking care of her, Kanaya promised her lusus that she would take care of the matriorb, an egg that will one day, when placed in just the right spot, hatch into a new mother grub. This is a duty that Kanaya takes very seriously and reflect how she knows how to prioritize herself, and how dedicated she can be once she sets her mind to something.

Abilities: As a troll, Kanaya is built a little tougher than a human. Physically speaking they are able to withstand more injury, and generally are stronger. This is mostly due to troll culture which is incredibly militant. From the moment they are hatched trolls have to undergo a series of obstacles and fight their way to the surface of the world. Many don't make it. From there on out they need to continue to fight to survive.

Kanaya in particular is one of the gentler trolls. She doesn't have any psychic abilities like some of the other trolls, she does not have their tendency for violence (yet at the same time, neither is she completely incapable of it), and she is one of the few who actually had a decent guardian in her life. As such, she probably isn't as capable a fighter in comparison to them, but she did fight alongside them in their adventures with her trusty makeupkind---a stick of lipstick that can turn into a chainsaw. She is quite skilled with said chainsaw.

There is one thing that separates Kanaya from the other trolls, and that is that she is a rainbow drinker (the troll equivalent of a vampire). This will not come to bear any significance unless Kanaya dies, in which case she will be resurrected as a rainbow drinker. At that point she will gain the typical vampiric strengths and weaknesses. Enhanced speed, strength, and recovery. She will be weakened in that she will become dependent on blood and unable to go out in the sun(?).

Multifandom Test: Kanji Tatsumi from Persona 4.

I think when they first meet Kanaya would be very nonplussed by Kanji. Humans as a whole are still creatures she considers a bit odd, and Kanji's over the top emotional reactions would both be puzzling and bemusing. Not to say there aren't plenty of trolls who have over the top reaction, but they usually remain in the realm of anger whereas Kanji gets easily flustered, embarrassed, upset, etc you know the deal.

After that I think they would find some commonground in that they are both into sewing and to a degree fashion. I can see them doing some sort of knitting circle together, and from there get to know each other more and steadily become good friends.

Third person sample: She could feel its warmth as she clutched it tight to her chest. A sign that it was alive and well, the single hope for her entire species. She felt fearful whenever she touched it, her heart that reverberated against it a tell-tale sign of this. Always she worried that the slightest touch, the slightest mishandling would shatter it and destroy both that hope, and the promise she had made to her lusus who had sacrificed so much to raise her.

To her protecting the matriorb, finding a place for it to hatch and thrive was more important than anything else, even her own life. They all may be waiting for death to come to them on swift wings, but if this mother grub could survive then all would be well. Kanaya could be satisfied with that.

Her eyes drifted from the remains of the Aradiabot, to Sollux and Feferi on the hornpile (a small smile playing on her lips) before settling on Karket. She should let him know where she was going so he wouldn't have to worry. With one last look at her computer to where she had just finished advising one of the humans, she strode towards him, the matiorb clutched to her heart.

First person sample: I must admit that I still find myself in a mild state of incredulity. To be spirited away to a penitentiary in a nebulously ascertained area by means unknown, is in itself reason for indignation. To do so in the middle of my ensuring the propogation of my species makes it more so. Particularly when, as you say, it is 'best' for me and the timeline from which I came.

[the irritation in her voice is clear, but after a small pause and sigh, it lifts a little]

I apologize. Little will be achieved from griping. If those in charge of this facility and this machine, Acumen, was it? If you are listening I beseech that you at least return to me that Very Important item which you have taken. I assure you it is by no means dangerous.

If any others are listening, which I believe must be the case, then of you I ask to enlighten me. Whatever you can tell me about this Marina facility would be most appreciated.
